NISHAT BAGH

Nishat Bagh, terletak di timur Tasik Dal dan berlatar belakang bukit Zabarwan. Nishat Bagh merupakan sebuah Taman Mughal yang sangat cantik dan ianya adalah taman yang kedua terbesar di Lembah Kashmir selepas Shalimar Garden, yang juga terletak di tebing Tasik Dal.

Nishat Bagh, also known as the Garden of Joy, is a terraced Mughal garden sprawled along the eastern side of the Dal Lake, with the towering Zabarwan hills as its backdrop, in the city of Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. The second-largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley, it is eclipsed only by the Shalimar Bagh, which also lies on the banks of the Dal Lake.

The aptly named ‘garden of joy' is truly a sight to behold, designed by Asaf Khan, on the orders of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, as a token of love for his wife Nur Jahan, the sister of Asaf Khan; also to serve as a place of leisure and reminiscence. Widely considered to be a master class of Mughal horticulture, the garden teems with rarely seen species of flowering plants, complete with lengthy alleyways lined with Chinar and cypress trees. Fondly named as the Garden Farah Baksh or the ‘Bestower of Pleasure’ by Emperor Jahangir, the garden also came to be known as Faiz Baksh, afterward.

Nishat Bagh has surprisingly remained intact since its construction in 1619. A garden that has stayed true to its Persian heritage, with its panorama on lines of the Islamic garden layout, the place is spread over 32 acres of flat land, its rectangular shape sculpted into 3 terraces containing pools of flowing water. 

Wondrous to watch is the flow of water from the higher terrace pool to the lower one, sashaying down as a resplendent waterfall. Every pool has multiple water-fountains lined-up in the center, outlined by rows of Chinar trees and walk-ways running in tandem with the pool. The source of water is the central water-canal ‘Shah Nahar’, fed as it is by a mile long canal drawing water from the Dal Lake.

Each of the three floors of the terrace has its own specialty, the first one containing a public audience hall with a black marble throne conveniently placed at the center. The second terrace houses the ‘Diwan-e-khaas’, originally meant for the Emperor’s conversations with his nobles. The third terrace is characterised by two small stone-pavilions for the royal harem, surrounded by the splendorous Zenana Gardens, which also contains a black-marble pavilion called the Baradari.

Masjid Hazratbal atau pun dikenali sebagai Masjid Putih adalah merupakan salah satu dari agenda lawatan ke bandar Srinagar. Ianya terletak berhadapan dengan Tasik Dal, begitu cantik sekali, tersergam indah berlatarbelakang gunung dan ianya dibina daripada batu marmar putih.

The Hazratbal Shrine is situated on the left bank of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. This unmatched reverence is anchored in the love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose Moi-e-Muqqadas, the sacred hair from the beard of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is preserved here.

The Hazratbal mosque also known as White Mosque is situated in Srinagar only 8 Kms from Lal Chowk and 7 kms from Tourist Reception Center, on the western banks of the picturesque Dal Lake. Facing the beautiful Nishat Bagh, the mosque offers a spectacular view of the lake and the mountain afar. This revered shrine houses the Moi-e-Muqqadus (preserved sacred hair) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Public display of the Moi-e-Muqqadas takes place only on religious occasions.

Some of the other names of the Hazratbal mosque are Assar-e-Sharief, Madinat-us-Sani, and Dargah Sharif. One of the most revered Muslim shrines, Hazratbal is an epitome of the love and respect of Muslims for the Prophet.

The Hazratbal Mosque of Kashmir is a beautiful structure of immaculate white marble. The Muslim Auqaf Trust headed by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah started the construction work on this marble structure in 1968.

The construction took about eleven years and the mosque was completed in 1979. The Friday prayers offered at Hazratbal attract the resident Muslim in huge numbers. Another attraction of Hazratbal is that it is the only domed mosque in Srinagar.

Hazratbal Shrine of Kashmir, India dates back to as far as the early seventeenth century. The Subedar of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, Sadiq Khan, constructed Ishrat Mahal (Pleasure House), along with a garden at the site of the mosque in 1623. However, when Shah Jahan visited the place in 1634, he ordered the conversion of the palace into a prayer house.

But, it was only during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb that Moi-e-Muqqadus arrived in Kashmir in 1699. Initially, it was kept in the shrine of Naqashbad Sahib situated in the center of the city.
